8/5/09 – Dan DeRosa feature & Send Off bash

Dan DeRosa, a National Slam Poet, a Host of Wednesday Night Poetry with us during his four years at Western Connecticut State University has GRADUATED with his bachlor’s degree in psych! Congratulations Dan! But now, he’s be accepted into a master’s program in the sunny state of Florida. The program begins the last week of August – so he is leaving for the southlands very soon. Tonight we will get to hear him perform his poetry and say good-bye for now. Come join us. As always there will be an open myk before our feature.

HOST: Faith

Oh a little can mean a lot. Battle of the bits. Come and throw hiaku at the wall as Faith Vicinanza holds a Haiku Slam. The form is Five syllables in the first line, Seven syllables in the second and Five again in the third line. YES YOU CAN WRITE HAIKU. DO IT.

Each round of poetry is the best of five haiku between two poets. Poets battle against each other until one poet is left standing. Five judges. A new haiku each time. Bring every haiku you have! Write some on the spot if need be. As many as 25 haiku may be needed to win the slam – go for it!!!!!!

Freshly returned from the 2008 National Slam in Madison Wis…  those wild wooly slammers, chair standers, hallway streakers, mannequin suitors and poe(rtry) ho-ho’s from the White Plains National Slam Team – (from left to right) James Joseph, Anne Marie Marra, Sean, (winner of WNPS’s first slam) and our very own Delirious Dan DeRosa! will perform as a team again!  Of course their coach and slam master Mr. PopTart and the renown Ms. Sweetie will lend a hand(s) too.
