8/15/07 Improvisational duets

15 Aug

Following a regular open mic, poets and prose writers are invited to read one work to an improvised musical background either with an electronic keyboard with sound effects, or possibly drum, harmonica, guitar, flute etc. depending on who attends. Some number of shakers and bells will be available as well. Poets may also bring their own musician friends to work with.

NOTE: this is not a JAM session as musicians understand the word. The goal is to have a sort of dialogue between the poet’s reading and the music being played, not to have the musicians play together which they can do on Thursday during Molten Java’s music open mic night. Musical Styles may be unusual or conventional. Satisfaction is not guaranteed but fun and a different experience of poetry can be expected
